March 5th, 2010 admin

Apple on Friday announced the official release date of its iPad — April 3 — but the company also raised more questions. Specifically, Apple’s press statement suggests the iPad won’t ship with all the apps that came with the iPhone. What will happen to them? Apple’s press release states the iPad includes “ 12 new innovative apps designed especially for the iPad.” That number presumably refers to the brand new Videos app and the redesigned iPod, Maps, Photos, Mail, Safari, App Store, iTunes, YouTube, Contacts, Calendar and Notes apps that were present …

Apple on Friday said it would begin accepting submissions for iPad apps next week to launch with the grand opening of the iPad App Store. Apple’s e-mail, provided to Wired.com by a developer who asked to remain anonymous, told developers to submit their apps by March 27, 5 p.m. PT if they wished to release their apps when the iPad lands...

iPad Apps Begin Appearing in iTunes App Store
Saturday marks the official grand opening of the iPad App Store, as well as the launch of the iPad, but some iPad apps are already showing up in iTunes. An “iPad apps” section is showing up in some iTunes search results. When you type “Flight Control” in iTunes search, for example, a separate “iPad Apps” section...

Video: 5 Sweet Apps to Break in Your iPad
The iPad hit the floor running with over 3,000 tablet apps available on launch day. Naturally, the iPad App Store is a cluttered mess, just like the iPhone’s. In this episode of the Gadget Lab video podcast, I handpick five iPad apps to get you started with your new life as a media-gorging hedonist. A game I easily became obsessed with was...

10 Stellar iPad Apps That Will Blow You Away
> The iPad is less than three months old, and already programmers have whipped up 9,000 apps for the fancy tablet. But, just as with the iPhone, there’s a problem: It’s hard to navigate the App Store for quality wares because it’s just too crowded. Right before the iPad launched and after it came out , we rounded up some apps...

In this episode of the Gadget Lab video podcast, I highlight four apps I’ve become attached to since I bought my iPad. The first is a game called Plants vs. Zombies HD . It’s a gorgeous 2-D tower-defense...
The Wi-Fi iPad’s Dealbreaker: No GPS
The Wi-Fi iPad’s Dealbreaker: No GPS
After several hours with an iPad today, the app I was most mesmerized with was Maps. One word: Wow. When showing off the iPad to others, the Maps app consistently made people’s jaws drop (even more so than the Marvel Comics app , which I also find pretty magical), and rightly so. Never have I seen such a fast, intuitive piece of technology...

Flickpad for iPad, Like Finding an Old Box of Photos
Flickpad is a Flickr (and Facebook) client for the iPad. There are seemingly endless Flickr clients for the iPad, but this is the one I use most. Why? Because it is the first one that actually makes it feel like you are browsing real printed photographs. The app, which comes in paid and lite versions, uses a wooden table as a presentation metaphor,...
Ten Things Missing From the iPad
Ten Things Missing From the iPad
The iPad was supposed to change the face of computing, to be a completely new form of digital experience. But what Steve Jobs showed us yesterday was in fact little more than a giant iPhone. A giant iPhone that doesn’t even make calls. Many were expecting cameras, kickstands and some crazy new form of text input. The iPad, though, is better...
Faceplant Adds Missing Features to FaceTime
Faceplant Adds Missing Features to FaceTime
FaceTime is pretty typical of an Apple consumer-level application: it is insanely polished, easy to use and high on the wow-factor, but lacking in the most basic features. That’s just what Faceplant adds. Unlike the most basic chat client, FaceTime has no list of online contacts, no way to leave a message for an offline user. Faceplant is...
